Your restorer is skilled at working with timber, veneer and textiles — repairing, refinishing and rebuilding furniture so it keeps its character. Here are the services people book most often, and what to expect from each.
Need a tired surface brought back? A French polisher or finisher will strip the old coating, fill and sand back the timber, then build up a new finish in thin coats. They'll start by testing a hidden corner to work out what's already on the piece, because shellac, lacquer and oil all behave differently. Most finishers ask you to leave the piece with them for a week so each coat can cure properly before the next one goes on.
When a joint gives way, the fix is rarely glue on its own. Whether you need a chair re-glued, a split table leaf closed, a drawer rebuilt or a veneer patch let in, a cabinetmaker can help. They'll take the piece apart at the joints, clean out the old hide glue, re-cut anything that's crumbled and clamp it back square. Then they'll check it sits flat before the finish is touched up to match.
Most seats bought off the floor won't hold their shape for a decade, and older frames often need webbing and foam replaced
before new fabric goes anywhere near them. Book upholstery around your area to help with dining chair seats, armchair recovering, and even headboard rebuilds for rooms that never quite finished. Recovering usually involves stripping back to the frame, re-tying springs, and cutting fabric so the pattern runs true across every panel.

The sliding door on a built-in wardrobe (chunky rollers) doesn't run. I need the track replaced and with finer rollers as they are stronger. Track colour flexible, prefer a dark finish e.g. black. Standard small-wheel open-ended track — my experience and research shows chunky ones are not as strong as small-wheel ones. The track is about 155cm long. It must be able to come apart so the door can be taken on and off. Standard wardrobe style please. Note medium to heavy duty — not light duty. Thanks.
