Meet the team
Fieldnote is made by a distributed team working across nine time zones.
Meet the teamTime — everyone has an opinion about it, and still it slips by unrecorded. We think hours deserve to be treated with care and spent on purpose. They’re finite, they’re personal, and they’re the one resource a team truly shares. That’s why we build tools that show people what their time is worth and how it’s really being used.
Fieldnote started in 2009 as a tool two designers built for themselves to keep their own practice afloat. At a six-person studio above a bakery in Providence, Nadia Ostroff and Peter Vance made the thing they couldn’t buy: a careful, quietly opinionated way to track hours and send an invoice. They called it Fieldnote. It has since grown into a tool used by tens of thousands of teams to record and understand their time.
Fieldnote is light, quick, and built to serve teams as varied as the work they make. Coming out of a design studio ourselves, we know the way a team spends its hours is as particular as the people on it and the clients they answer to.
Today Fieldnote handles time tracking and billing for tens of thousands of customers worldwide — from solo consultants to small studios to departments inside companies with 40,000 staff.
