Everyone’s hours are valuable.
We help teams spend them well.

Time — everyone has an opinion about it, and still it slips by unrecorded. We think hours deserve to be treated with care and spent on purpose. They’re finite, they’re personal, and they’re the one resource a team truly shares. That’s why we build tools that show people what their time is worth and how it’s really being used.

Our story

Keeping time and helping teams thrive since 2009

Fieldnote started in 2009 as a tool two designers built for themselves to keep their own practice afloat. At a six-person studio above a bakery in Providence, Nadia Ostroff and Peter Vance made the thing they couldn’t buy: a careful, quietly opinionated way to track hours and send an invoice. They called it Fieldnote. It has since grown into a tool used by tens of thousands of teams to record and understand their time.

2009
Fieldnote ships. One of the first time trackers built for a phone browser — light, fast, and made by a team for their own team.
2013
Online payments arrive. Invoices become collectible in a click, and customers stop waiting on cheques.
2017
Native apps and an expanding set of integrations put Fieldnote on every device and inside the tools teams already keep open.
2024
Past 1.9 billion hours recorded and $63 billion invoiced, with payments collected through Fieldnote on behalf of customers.
