About Northloom

Hire past the map

Talented people are everywhere; hiring rules are not. Northloom carries the contracts, payroll and compliance so a border never decides who joins your team.

Our product

One platform for the whole employment lifecycle

Northloom gives teams the contracts, the local know-how and the payment rails they need in one place — so hiring across a border costs no more thought than hiring across a hallway.

Onboard in minutes

Send a compliant local contract, collect the paperwork and ship a laptop — from one checklist.

Pay in any currency

One invoice in, forty-two currencies out — no wire chasing, no surprise correspondent fees.

Run HR for everyone

Contractors, employees and agency staff live in one directory with one set of policies.

Stay compliant abroad

Local counsel keeps every template current, so a rule change in Lisbon never becomes your problem.

Founding story

How Northloom started

In 2016, Priya Raghavan and Mateo Ferrand were running a nine-person design studio out of two cities and one shared spreadsheet. Half the team was hired properly; the other half was paid by whichever method cleared fastest that month. Neither founder could explain, with a straight face, why a contract in Porto took eleven weeks.

They started Northloom to close that gap: a single place where an offer, a work permit, a benefits package and a payment run all belong to the same record — so a company's reach is decided by who it wants to hire, not by which entities it happens to own.

We have always been our own first customer. Everything we ship, we run our own payroll on first. As the team grew past four countries, then twenty-six, the problems we hit became the roadmap: equipment that never arrives, misfiled tax residency, a contractor who should have been an employee eight months ago. Northloom now covers the whole arc of employment, not just the paperwork at the start of it.

Priya Raghavan

CEO & Co-Founder

Priya is the co-founder and CEO of Northloom, the employment platform for teams that hire across borders. Since 2016 the company has grown to 1,840 people in 74 countries and raised $612 million, and it now handles employment for 18,400 businesses — from eleven-person studios to listed manufacturers.

She grew up between Chennai and Lisbon and trained as a labour economist before spending six years building payments infrastructure for remittance corridors in West Africa. She writes a quiet monthly newsletter on wage transparency that somehow has 40,000 readers.

Away from Northloom, Priya restores mechanical typewriters badly and sails a very slow boat out of Cascais.

Mateo Ferrand

President & Co-Founder

Mateo is President and co-founder of Northloom, where he leads revenue, partnerships and the legal network. He took the company from its first $1M to $148M in annual recurring revenue in 31 months, and built the in-country counsel programme that now spans 74 jurisdictions.

Before Northloom he co-founded Ledgerhouse, a cross-border invoicing tool acquired in 2015, and spent three years as an employment lawyer in Buenos Aires — the job that convinced him this problem was worth a decade.

Mateo mentors first-time founders through an open office-hours programme and is unreasonably competitive at five-a-side football.

Two founders, one spare room in Porto and a single product: a contract that a designer in Nairobi and a company in Rotterdam could both sign without a lawyer in the middle.
