Booked a table here after three separate coworkers told me it was the only ramen worth crossing the river for, and honestly the broth did not quite live up to all of that buildup.
We came in around half past eight on a weeknight and started with the charred cabbage and the pork belly skewers, which were both genuinely excellent and arrived faster than I expected. The staff were patient while the four of us argued about what to order, and nobody rushed the table even once a queue started forming behind us. If you are going with more than three people, ask for the long bench at the back rather than squeezing into the window seats the way we did.
The tonkotsu itself was the letdown. Noodles were fine, maybe a touch soft, but the broth had clearly been sitting long enough that the fat had gone flat, and the egg came out cold in the middle. For eighteen dollars I wanted something closer to what the tiny shop two blocks north manages for eleven, and I said so to our server, who was gracious about it.
That said, the chilli oil they make in house is worth buying by the jar, and I walked out with two of them without pretending to think it over.
Would I come back? Probably yes, though next time for the small plates and a seat at the counter, and not for another bowl of the house tonkotsu.
