Odile Vantry's review of A Quieter Weather by Marguerite Ilsley
Feb 9, 2026
Tender Slow Quietly devastating

This one takes a while to open up, and then it does not let go of you. The final chapter earns every slow page before it. What the author does with the silence between the two sisters is remarkable, and I kept underlining whole phrases I wanted to keep somewhere safe.

The audiobook is worth it too, if you have the patience for a slower reader. The narrator lets every pause sit exactly as long as it needs to, which turns out to be the whole point of the thing.

I will be thinking about the last page for a long while.
