What surprised us most about the hardware industry was how thoughtful many of the people inside it were. The products still burned people out — not because of who built them, but because of the incentives they answered to.

So making calmer technology takes more than good intentions. We decided to write our purpose into the company itself: a duty to shareholders, and an equal, legal duty to the people who use what we make.
