Ambition here means pushing past the shelf. We back the harder experiment, fund the second attempt, and treat a lost instrument as evidence rather than a verdict.

One crew

Nobody finishes a survey alone. We publish raw readings before they are tidy, hand off cleanly between watches, and make the next person’s job easier to finish than ours was.

Move on the tide

Weather windows close. We decide with the readings we already have, put the change in the water, then sit down and review it once the instrument is back on deck.

Build for the record

Every measurement outlives the contract that paid for it. We calibrate carefully and document plainly so a crew ten years out can still trust what we left behind.

We build in short cycles and commit out loud. A proposal that survives Tuesday review is usually in the water by the end of the month, and whoever wrote it is the one who reads the data back.

Why now?

We are building the subsea data layer — one record that reconciles sonar, drift, salinity and temperature across every instrument we have ever put over the side. With $142M in Series C funding from Meridian Deep and Coldwater Partners, Fathomline is opening survey capacity across the North Atlantic and the Pacific rim. It is a rare window to own a whole subsystem end to end.
