Set up your local Understudy.

Run Understudy on hardware you already own, through the Rookwood desktop app.

Setup Guide

01

Download Rookwood for desktop

Understudy lives inside the Rookwood desktop app. Install it on the machine that stays put, then sign in with your Rookwood account.

Download
02

Install the Marlin browser

Marlin is the agentic browser. Understudy hands web work to Marlin so it can move through signed-in sites, fill forms, and pull details back.

Get Marlin
03

Allow system permissions

Your operating system will ask for Accessibility (so the agent can click and type), Screen & Audio Recording (so it can read what is on screen), and Full Disk Access (so it can open your files). Approve each one as it appears.

04

Connect folders and apps

Point the agent at the folders it may touch — Downloads, Desktop, Projects — and sign into the services it should know about. It only sees what you connect.

05

Pair your phone

The phone app catches two-factor prompts, approves sensitive steps, and lets you start work while you are away from the desk.

Understudy runs on your own machine.

Local files

Work inside real folders on the machine: Desktop, Downloads, project directories, screenshots, exports.

Native apps

Use the apps you already keep open, including Chat, Calendar, Notes, Mail, and Marlin.

Signed-in sessions

Reuse the browser sessions and connectors you set up once, instead of authenticating again on every run.

Remote control

Approve the sensitive steps from your phone, then let the desk machine keep grinding without you.

Plug in your files, apps, and accounts.

Tell it what, where, and when to stop.

A good instruction names the action, the data it is allowed to touch, and the line it should not cross.

01

Tidy my Downloads folder. Group the files by project and ask me before deleting anything.

02

Read the notes in this folder, check my calendar, and draft Thursday's release update.

03

Compare this local launch plan against what is live on the web. List anything that changed.

Install it on the quiet machine.

Best on a small desktop you can leave running at home — but it works on any machine with 16 GB of memory and a spare drive.
