Fundamentally different

Northkeep was started in 2016 by cryptographers who met at a public research lab and shared one conviction: the network should answer to the people using it.

Our commitment to open review, auditable software, and rigorous encryption has seen Northkeep recommended by digital-rights groups and used by millions worldwide.

Most technology companies define privacy as "nobody can exploit your data except us." We disagree. We think nobody should be able to exploit your data, full stop.

Our technology and our business model rest on that stricter definition — and it is reinforced by some of the world's firmest data-protection law.

Privacy for a better world

At Northkeep we believe a better world begins with privacy, and that mission sits at the centre of everything we build. Privacy is not a talking point here; it is the reason the company exists at all.

We believe in people before profits, and we spend our resources fighting for an open internet that protects freedom of speech and freedom of information.

End-to-end encryption

End-to-end and zero-access encryption mean no one — Northkeep included — holds the technical means to read your data without your say-so.

We sell no ads and share nothing. Privacy here is not a promise, it is arithmetic.

How our encryption works

Sovereign hosting

Northkeep runs on hardware we own, in jurisdictions with the firmest privacy statutes on the books, and nothing leaves for third-party clouds.

We are a neutral harbour for personal data, and we intend to stay one.

About our jurisdiction

Security made simple

Encrypted services should feel ordinary. Ours do — the cryptography runs quietly underneath and never asks you to think about it.

Quick Move imports and encrypts your existing mail from most providers in a couple of clicks.

Open source and audited

Trust is earned through transparency and peer review, so every client we ship is open source.

Independent security firms audit our apps each year and publish what they find, unedited.

Free forever

Privacy is a human right, which is why the core of every Northkeep service is free and the encryption behind it is free software.

There are no ads and nothing to sell. Paid plans simply add room and features.

Our story begins in a public research lab

Northkeep was founded in 2016 by cryptographers who met at a national physics institute and shared a vision for a more private internet. We believe in technical rigour, integrity, and transparency, and we work for the public good.

Built by the community, for the community

Northkeep began with a public crowdfunding campaign and grew on community input. To this day our only revenue is subscriptions from the people who use the service — never advertisers, never brokers.

The Ledger

Beacon Review

Northkeep VPN has staked its reputation on being a privacy-first network, and three years of published audits back the claim up.

The encryption is genuinely invisible in daily use, which is the highest compliment you can pay a security product.
