So glad to have you here. Say hello in the introductions room and tell us what you're making this month.
Stop bolting chat on top of your community.
Hearthway gives you both halves at once: rooms for live conversation, threads for the slow ones, events, and everything between.
I can't believe how much I'm picking up from this cohort. @Ines you have to sit in on the next one.
This week's glaze breakdown was worth the whole membership. Everything actually made sense for once.
The lively community your members actually show up for.
Blend live rooms with slow-burn discussion
Keep moderation quiet, quick and unmissable
Make every new member feel expected
Fewer crickets. More conversation.
This week's glaze breakdown was worth the whole membership. Everything actually made sense for once.
I'm floored by how careful the teaching is here. @Caleb you should sit in on the Thursday one.
Thanks for the nudge, @Ines. I'll be there — already blocked the evening off.
Genuinely glad I found this room. It fits around a full-time job, which nothing else did.
Been hearing good things for months. I think it's finally time to stop lurking and sign up.
The archive alone is worth it. @Rowan is unreasonably quick at answering questions in here.
Chat rooms let you host live discussion inside your community, so members can talk over topics, trade work and answer each other without leaving.
More than 12,480 teams in 74 countries run their community on Hearthway.
Why run eight tools when one will do?
Every chat feature you need, sitting inside the community itself — not in a tab your members forget to open.
- Send private and group messages
- Turn a good thread into a lasting post
- Open rooms for real-time conversation
Welcome to the studio circle — we've been looking forward to having you in here.
Thank you! I've been reading along for a while — glad to finally be part of it.
Unlike social platforms, the room is yours to run
A calm, spam-free space you can moderate without it becoming a second job.
- Set word and link filters
- Edit or remove any message
- Search and archive the full history
I've been folding a short throwing session into my mornings and it's changed how the week goes.
I can relate to that. There's a whole shelf of resources in here for exactly this, and a session starting soon.
Count me in — this is exactly what I joined for.
Warm welcomes, without the busywork
Greet members and get them talking on day one, while the introductions still count.
- Message new members as they join
- Introduce peers to each other
- Drop people into the rooms that fit

Our members keep saying it feels calm. It's quick, it's clean, nothing is shouting at them. I'm glad we moved.
Common questions about chat rooms
Can I still run a space for long-form discussion?
Yes — you get both. Post spaces keep asynchronous discussion in one place, where members write longer pieces and comment on each other's, much closer to a forum than a feed.
Alongside that you can open a chat room, which behaves like any messaging app, for the conversations that only work in real time.
As an admin, can I read what members DM each other?
No. Direct messages stay between the people in them. Admins can disable DMs for a space, or restrict them by member tier, but the contents are never surfaced to moderators.
What's the difference between a group thread and a chat room?
Group threads are private and invite-only, started by a member for a handful of people. Chat rooms are part of the space itself, visible to everyone with access to it, and they stay put after the conversation ends.
Do the Hearthway mobile apps support chat?
They do, on both iOS and Android, with push notifications you can tune per room so people aren't woken by a quiet aside at 3am.
Where can I see examples of chat rooms in use?
The customer stories library has walkthroughs from eleven communities, including how they structured rooms in their first ninety days.
