Which external SSDs do you recommend for the Rho / Rho R?
The Corewell Fieldcase 4 TB is the drive we recommend for use with the Rho / Rho R.
Can I charge the Rho series from a portable power bank?
Yes. Any bank supplying 9 V / 3 A over USB-C will charge the body while it is powered off.
What is the flash sync speed when shooting with the Rho R?
1/180 sec with the mechanical shutter, and 1/30 sec when the electronic shutter is selected.
Can I supply power to the Rho R over USB while streaming?
Yes, provided the source delivers at least 27 W. Streaming while charging is not supported.
Which RAW formats does the Rho series record for video?
12-bit linear RAW to an external recorder, and 10-bit compressed RAW to the internal card.
I can't select electronic image stabilisation on my Rho body.
Electronic stabilisation is unavailable when the crop mode or a 12-bit RAW format is active. Reset both and the menu becomes selectable.
Can electronic and optical stabilisation be used at the same time?
They can. The body gives priority to the optical unit and applies electronic correction only to residual motion.
What makes the Halo X sensor different from a conventional sensor?
Halo X stacks three photodiodes at every pixel site, so full colour is measured at each location rather than interpolated from neighbours.
Lens
What is the QLA (Quiet Linear Actuator) motor?
QLA is Aperta's own linear autofocus motor. It drives the focus group directly, without gearing or other mechanical linkage, which makes focusing quiet, quick and extremely precise.
How well does the 16mm F1.4 DN | Prime handle focus breathing on video?
Angle of view shifts by roughly 1.8% across the full focus travel, which is generally unnoticeable at wider framings.
Can a sheet filter be fitted to the 14mm F1.8 HSM | Prime for DSLRs?
Yes — the rear holder accepts a cut sheet filter up to 0.3 mm thick.
Is the Mount Conversion Service available for DN lenses moving to a Z mount?
Not at present. Conversion is offered between M-Mount, EF and A-Mount versions only.
Which direction does the focus ring turn on Aperta DN lenses?
Clockwise towards infinity, viewed from behind the camera. The direction can be reversed in the body menu on recent models.
Why does the 50mm F1.4 DN | Prime rattle slightly when shaken?
The linear focus group rests freely when the lens is unpowered. The sound is normal and stops once the body is switched on.
The focus still shifts even with the MFL switch locked.
MFL locks manual input only. If the body is set to continuous AF it will keep driving the group; switch the body to manual focus as well.
Fine focus is harder once linear focus is enabled.
Linear focus maps a fixed rotation to the full travel. Choose the 180° setting instead of 90° for finer control.
My lens supports linear focus but the menu doesn't appear.
The menu is added by firmware 2.14 or later on the body. Update the body first, then the lens.
Can the I-line metal cap be used with a filter fitted?
Only with filters of 4.1 mm or less in frame height. Thicker rings prevent the magnets from seating.
Can the mount on my interchangeable lens be converted?
Most lenses released after 2017 can be converted. Send an enquiry through your regional service partner for a quotation.
What does "Lens Optical Correction" actually correct?
Vignetting, chromatic aberration, distortion and diffraction softening — each toggled independently in the body menu.
Are all lenses and bodies compatible as long as both follow the M-Mount standard?
Mechanically, yes. Some functions still depend on firmware, so check the compatibility table for your specific pairing.
Cine Lens
Where can I see Aperta cine lenses in person?
Please contact your local Aperta dealer or service partner for further information.
Can Aperta cine lenses be used on interchangeable still camera bodies?
Yes, where the mount matches. Autofocus and aperture control are not available — both are manual by design.
Can I use teleconverters with Aperta cine lenses?
No. The rear group sits too close to the flange for any converter to be fitted safely.
Are cine lenses interchangeable with their still-lens counterparts?
The optics are shared, but the barrels, gearing and front diameters differ, so accessories are not cross-compatible.
Are Aperta cine lenses compatible with other manufacturers' cameras?
Yes, on any body carrying a matching PL, M-Mount or EF flange.
Can commercially available mount adaptors be used with Aperta cine lenses?
They can, though we cannot guarantee flange accuracy or infinity focus with third-party adaptors.
Does the Mount Conversion Service carry a fee?
Yes. Pricing is set regionally; your service partner will quote before any work begins.
Why aren't PL mounts covered by the conversion service?
PL barrels use a different rear housing that cannot be re-machined to the tolerances we require.
Will every cine lens you release share the same barrel size?
Within a line, yes — matched 95 mm fronts and common gear positions, so rigs do not need rebalancing between focal lengths.
Do bodies read and record metadata from Aperta cine lenses?
Electronic mounts record focal length, aperture and focus distance. PL versions carry no contacts and record nothing.
Can the mount on my interchangeable lens be converted?
For cine lenses, conversion is available between M-Mount and EF only.
Accessory
Do HDMI output and USB connection still work on Rho bodies with the EVF-04 attached?
HDMI remains available. The USB port is occupied by the viewfinder, so a second connection is not possible.
Can the MC-04 or MC-12 converters be used in combination with a teleconverter?
No. Stacking a converter behind a mount converter puts the rear element beyond its designed distance.
Software

Update your graphics driver, then re-launch Aperta Studio. If the option stays greyed out, your card is below the 4 GB VRAM minimum.
