Veldt Rent: rent a travel bag

Your trip, our bag: from today you can rent the big Veldt travel backpack instead of buying it — travel journal and a smaller footprint included.

Let's be blunt: most of us need a travel bag for maybe six days a year. And still, bulky, expensive luggage takes up cupboard space in households everywhere. Veldt Rent is our answer. From now on you can rent a travel bag instead of buying one.

The service is deliberately simple: walk into your nearest Veldt store, pick up a V420 NOMAD RENT travel backpack, head off on whatever comes next — a weekend or a season — then bring it back. No reservation. Flexible period. No fuss.

Easy on your budget, your cupboard and the planet

Veldt Rent is for deliberate minimalists and part-time anti-consumers who would rather own less. The arithmetic is plain: when several people share one travel bag, everybody saves money, space and material.

As a renter, you get every part of a Veldt travel bag and pay only for the days you actually use it.

Manifesto meets real life

«We prefer access to ownership.» That line comes straight from the Veldt Manifesto, and it is exactly how the rental service works. The launch follows two years of piloting the idea of lending our bags out temporarily. Veldt Rent sits inside our wider Circular Services.

V420 Nomad Rent

The V420 NOMAD holds a great deal, carries comfortably and fits almost any luggage rack. For Veldt Rent we added acid-yellow labels and a removable inner lining. It is swapped fresh in-store before your trip and cleaned again after you hand it back, so it is always clean.

V421 Orbit

Our colourful new V421 ORBIT tarpaulin luggage tags turn every rental bag into an unmistakable one-off. And yes, you can buy one to keep.

Travel journal

Don't skip the TRAVEL JOURNAL, which records the adventures of bags and their temporary owners. Before you set off, the date and your destination go in. You fill the rest with whatever happens. Each Veldt Rent bag slowly becomes a log of missed trains, borrowed umbrellas and all the other wild and ordinary things that happen to the person carrying it.

How it works
  1. Walk into a Veldt store and pick out an available V420 NOMAD RENT.
  2. If you don't have a Veldt account yet, the store crew will open one for you.
  3. Pay the rental deposit (details below).
  4. Head off with the bag. If you feel like it, share the trip with us at #VELDTrent or tag us directly at @veldtlab. And do write in the TRAVEL JOURNAL.
  5. Bring the bag back to the same Veldt store — whenever you're ready, but no later than 180 days — and settle the amount due.

The cost of Veldt Rent

The basic rental fee is CHF 22. That flat rate covers making and maintaining the bag, cleaning it, inserting the lining, all handling at the Veldt store and the first four days of rental — ideal for a long weekend. From day five it is an extra CHF 4 per day, and from day fifteen CHF 3 daily. If your plans shift, nothing breaks: you don't have to set a return date in advance.
