Answers to Common Questions

Practising with Sablefinch

Why does my practice plan keep shifting?

Our coaches rebuild each plan on a rolling schedule so the drills stay useful as your ear develops. When a lesson set is refreshed you may notice new exercises, retitled chapters, or a slightly different order of study. We also nudge your position in the plan so the difficulty still lines up with what you can play today. None of your history is lost when this happens, and the change keeps the practice honest rather than repetitive as your playing gets stronger.

How is my practice run counted?

A run grows by one on any day you finish a full session before midnight in your device's own time zone. Miss a day and the counter resets, though a saved rest token will hold it for you once per calendar month.

What are practice circles and tiers?

Circles group you with about thirty players working at a similar pace. Each week the top eleven move up a tier and the bottom nine move down, so the people beside you stay roughly matched to your own progress.

Does Sablefinch build on any open source projects?

Yes. A full inventory of the community-maintained packages we rely on, together with each licence text, ships inside the app under Settings → Legal → Acknowledgements, and is refreshed with every release.

Your Account

How do I update my handle or sign-in email?

Open Settings, tap Profile, then edit either field and confirm with your password. A verification link goes to the new address; the old one keeps working until you follow it.

How do I search for, follow, or mute other players?

Use the people tab to look someone up by handle. Following is one tap; muting hides their activity from your circle feed without notifying them, and can be undone at any time from the same menu.

How do I clear or restart an instrument track?

Long-press the track on your shelf and choose Reset. Your run and totals survive, but every chapter goes back to locked, so keep a note of where you were if you plan to return later.

I cannot get back into my account.

Request a reset link from the sign-in screen and check the spam folder before trying again. If the address itself is out of reach, write to our support desk from any inbox and we will verify you another way.

How do I close my account and export my data?

Settings → Privacy holds both controls. Ask for the export first: we send a machine-readable archive within seven days. Closure is queued for thirty days, after which the record is deleted for good.

What to do if your sign-in details were exposed

Change your password straight away, then sign out every other device from the security panel. Turning on a second factor takes about a minute and blocks almost every reuse attempt we see.

Plans & Billing

What is Sablefinch Studio and how do I join?

Studio removes session limits, adds slow-down playback and unlocks the full backing-track library. Start it from the Plans screen; the first fourteen days are free and you can leave before they end at no cost.

Household plan

One household plan covers up to six players at £11.40 a month. Everyone keeps a private profile, a separate run counter and their own shelf; only the invoice is shared.

How do I cancel my Studio membership?

Cancel wherever you signed up: in the app under Plans, or through the store account that holds the receipt. Studio features stay live until the last paid day, then the account quietly returns to the free tier.

How do I ask for a refund?

Charges made on our own site can be reversed within fourteen days from the Billing page. Anything billed by a mobile store has to be refunded by that store, since we never see the payment details.

Where do I enter a gift or offer code?

Go to Plans, scroll to Redeem a code and paste it in. Codes are case-sensitive, apply to one account only, and cannot be stacked with an offer that is already running on the same membership.

What is Sablefinch Atelier?

Atelier is our upper tier: everything in Studio plus two live tutor clinics a month, written feedback on recordings you submit, and early access to new instrument tracks while they are still in test.
