So, what do you need?
Where do you press it?
Good one. Most of what we fill is pressed in Ribatejo, Portugal, though a tin from this season might instead read a) Zamora, Spain, b) Thessaly, Greece, or c) Basilicata, Italy along the bottom edge.
We think the single farm on the label matters far less than how fast the fruit travelled from grove to press. Careful pressing happens in a lot of countries, and we would rather show you all of them than pretend one corner of the map has it figured out.
Why a tin instead of glass? Can I recycle it?
Tin keeps light out completely, which is the thing that turns good oil flat. Rinse it, peel the paper band off, and it goes in with household metals almost everywhere.
Is it pressed from one seed or a blend?
Sear is a two-variety blend built for heat. Sprig is single-variety and changes with the harvest, so the flavour notes on the band get rewritten twice a year.
Why is mine so golden? Why is mine so pale?
Colour tracks how early the fruit was picked, not quality. An early press runs deep and grassy; a later one runs pale and buttery. Both are exactly as they should be.
Is it organic? Nut-free? Suitable for coeliacs?
Every press is certified organic, contains no gluten and no nuts, and is bottled on a line that handles nothing else. The full certificate sits behind the code on the base of the tin.
How is Sprig different from Sear?
Sear has a high smoke point and a quiet flavour, so it disappears into a hot pan. Sprig is meant to go on last — over beans, over eggs, over anything that just came off the heat.
Cooking oil in a paint tin?? Really??
Really. The lid seals tighter than a screw cap, the walls block every bit of light, and a used tin is worth something at the recycling centre. It also stacks in a cupboard without rolling.
What funnel works best for topping up a tin?
Anything with a 12 mm spout and a long stem. Ours is brass and ships free with the duo, but a cheap kitchen one from the corner shop pours just as cleanly.
I typed the wrong address at checkout. Can that still be fixed?
If the parcel has not left the packing bench, yes. Write to us with your order number in the subject line and we will catch it — the cut-off is roughly four hours after you order.
How long does a parcel usually take to reach me?
Two to four working days once it is picked, and a tracking link lands in your inbox the moment the label is printed.
Do you post outside the UK?
We reach 14 countries at the moment. If yours is not on the list at checkout, add your email there and we will tell you the week it opens.
My tin turned up dented. What now?
A dent that has not broken the seal is cosmetic and the oil is fine. If anything leaked, send us one photo and a replacement goes out the same afternoon.
Do you take returns or swaps?
Unopened tins come back within 30 days for a full refund. If you opened one and it is not for you, we will swap it for the other press rather than take it back.
What is the refill plan — what turns up, and how is it different from ordering one tin at a time?
A refill lands every six, ten or fourteen weeks, whichever matches how fast you cook, and it costs about a fifth less than a one-off. You pick the press, skip a round whenever you like, and stop the whole thing in two clicks.
I am on the plan. How do I switch from tins to pouches?
Open your plan page, choose Change format, and pick pouches. It applies from the next round, and the price adjusts on that round rather than retroactively.
