Changing who receives a payout
We can move a payout to a different recipient when the appeal is run by an individual and the named recipient either doesn't clear our payout checks or is unable to finish the handover themselves.
If you'd rather keep the same recipient but they're stuck partway through the bank transfer, that's usually quicker to fix. Ask them to open the appeal and choose “Talk to us” — the payouts desk can pick it up from wherever the transfer stalled.
Hand the payout to someone else
To name a different recipient, send the request through this short form. We ask for written confirmation from the current recipient and from the appeal lead before anything moves, and both replies need to come from the addresses already on the account.
- Open the appeal, then select Payout settings from the manage panel.
- Choose Change recipient and enter the new recipient's name and email address.
- We email both parties a confirmation link that stays valid for 72 hours.
- Once both have confirmed, the new recipient completes identity checks — typically 2 to 4 working days.
Nothing leaves the appeal balance during a recipient change, and supporters aren't charged again. Donations carry on as normal.
If the appeal lead can no longer act
When the person who started the appeal can't continue — illness, a house move abroad, or simply stepping back — a co-lead or the named recipient can ask us to reassign it. Attach anything that shows the connection between the appeal and the person taking over: a message thread, a shared invoice, or a letter from the group the appeal supports.
Appeals raising for a registered charity follow a different route. Those payouts are tied to the charity's own account, so the charity's finance contact has to make the request from their side. Our team can start that conversation for you if you're not sure who that is.
What tends to hold a change up
- A confirmation link that expired before both parties replied.
- A recipient name that doesn't match the name on the receiving bank account.
- An account with two-step verification switched off — we ask for it before a change of this size.
- Requests sent from an email address that was never added to the appeal.
