Terms of Service

Last updated on March 4, 2026

These terms set out the conditions on which you may read, listen to, or otherwise use the products and services published by The Ashlode Company, including ashlode.com, our newsletters, our audio programmes, and our mobile applications (together, "Ashlode", "we", or "us").

Read these terms closely before using any Ashlode product or service. They affect the rights available to you and the ways in which a dispute with us can be resolved.

Notice — arbitration agreement and class action waiver: unless you opt out as described in Section 10, disputes between you and Ashlode will be settled by binding arbitration rather than in court, except for the narrow categories listed in that section. Arbitration means you give up the right to a jury trial and the right to bring or take part in a class action. Read Section 10 in full before you subscribe.

For an account of what we collect and how we handle personal information, see our Privacy Policy. If you live outside the areas listed there, your use of Ashlode services is also your consent to the processing described in that policy under the laws of our jurisdiction.

1. Accepting these terms

By opening an account, starting a trial, or reading an article on any Ashlode surface, you agree to these terms and to the policies referenced in them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a school, library, newsroom or company, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation, and "you" refers to it as well.

If you do not accept any part of these terms, do not use the services. Some features carry additional rules — group subscriptions, the reader archive, and the events programme each have supplemental terms that apply alongside this document.

2. Subscriptions, trials and billing

Subscriptions renew automatically at the rate shown at checkout until you cancel. Introductory rates apply for the stated period only; after that period the standard rate for your plan takes effect. Rates are shown inclusive of applicable tax where required by local law.

We may change the price of a plan with at least 28 days' notice sent to the email address on your account. If you do not wish to continue at the new rate, cancel before it takes effect.

3. Ownership of published material

Articles, photographs, graphics, audio, data sets and the arrangement of them on our services are protected by copyright and are owned by The Ashlode Company or by our contributors and licensors. Nothing in these terms transfers any of those rights to you.

Your subscription grants a personal, revocable, non-transferable licence to read and listen for your own non-commercial use. Requests to reprint, translate, teach from, or otherwise redistribute our work are handled through licensing and syndication.
