Overview of important terms in Halyard
Learning a new platform can feel like a lot at first — you are trying to get real work done, and at the same time a whole dictionary of new vocabulary is being handed to you.
Halyard is built to stay out of your way, and that includes keeping our feature names and terminology as plain as we can. Skim the list below to get comfortable with the Halyard vocabulary before your first client call. Knowing these terms up front makes everything that follows — approvals, reimbursements, month-end close — much easier to follow.
Terminology:
- Account: Your account holds everything tied to you as an individual — sign-in details, notification settings, and the list of clients you support. Sign in with your credentials at halyard.co. You will manage every client you work with from a single Halyard account. One account = one person.
-
Skipper: Skipper is your first stop for anything Halyard. Use Skipper to run the expense-reporting cycle end to end (and to book travel, too). Skipper can create expenses, submit reports, and walk you through approval and reimbursement. It also flags duplicate receipts, applies the correct exchange rate, and checks each transaction line by line.
- The more you and your clients work with Skipper, the more accurately it predicts what you are trying to do. Put another way: the less you enjoy expense reports, the more you will like Skipper.
- Write to skipper@halyard.co any time, or message the Skipper team from inside the app for help.
-
Home: The Home tab is where you (or your client) set up a Halyard account and its Workspaces, then clear whatever report tasks are still waiting on you.
- Need to approve a client's expense report? Forgot to reimburse someone on their team? Home gathers all of it into one short, tidy to-do list.
- If you or your client are still mid-setup, you will see “Book a call” buttons here. Use them to hold time with an Onboarding Specialist who can finish the configuration alongside you. Once setup is signed off, switch to Skipper for day-to-day support and for technical questions like sync errors.
- Workspace: A workspace is the standard organizational unit for a company or client inside Halyard. Every client needs at least one workspace, since it is the frame that reports are submitted, approved, and reimbursed against. It is uncommon, but a client can run more than one workspace — useful when a subsidiary needs a different approval chain or its own reimbursement account.
