Verdanta gives security and IT teams control over the data they collect, route and store — a vendor-neutral pipeline plus an agent that searches logs where they already sit.

Since launching in 2018 the company has been chasing a growing problem: data volume. Verdanta estimates the telemetry a mid-size company generates grows 31.4% year over year, while security budgets stay flat. Its answer was to surface actionable signal without paying to warehouse everything first.

Bringing it back to the days of the LAN

When Dara Whitcombe joined as Senior Director of IT & Security, she inherited a remote-access stack built for a 40-person company. Engineers needed shared machines on three clouds; everyone else needed the intranet to just work. The team ran an open-source VPN, but identity was bolted on and non-technical staff filed a ticket every Monday morning.

“I wanted the network to feel like a LAN again — everything reachable, nothing on the public internet,” Whitcombe said. Fennwick’s identity model let her drop the concentrator entirely and let people sign in with the directory they already used.

Verdanta adopted Fennwick in 2021 with 34 people on the roster; there are 646 today. Access rules live in version control alongside the rest of the platform, so a new region or a new contractor is a reviewed pull request rather than a firewall change. Least-privilege stopped being a quarterly project and became the default path.

“Every security team wants zero trust, but it always sits on the other side of the horizon. Fennwick brought it one step closer to something we actually run — my team ships instead of babysitting tunnels.”

Final thoughts

Verdanta recently passed $118M in ARR in its fourth year — a milestone Whitcombe credits partly to shipping speed. “Fennwick let us give people secure connectivity across any infrastructure. Its simplicity is the reason it scaled with us,” she said.
