- Tell me about a moderation call you made that you later reconsidered.
- Tell me about a time you had to learn an unfamiliar platform in a week.
- Tell me about a launch week where the volume outpaced the team.
- Tell me about a decision you made without the data you wanted.
Alongside these questions, many teams will ask you to run through a short scenario exercise — usually a real thread that went sideways — or to sketch a 30-day plan for a channel they are about to open.
Questions worth asking your interviewer
It is equally useful to bring a handful of questions of your own. It signals that you have thought about the role beyond the job post, and it gives you the detail you need to judge whether the team is a fit. A few that tend to open up a good conversation:
- Which channel is hardest to staff right now, and why?
- What does the team want to be true of the community twelve months from now?
- How do moderation decisions get escalated here?
- Where does this role sit between marketing, support, and product?
- What does the rest of the hiring process look like?
Hopefully this gives you a solid base to prepare from. Good luck with the interview.
