User interview: command-line workflow on Fedora
Participant
The participant is a backend engineer who works almost entirely from a tiling window manager on Fedora, driving builds and deploys from a single terminal session. They follow release notes and maintainer threads on a handful of forums, which is where most of their tooling decisions start.
What worked
The participant called out several things that already fit the way they work:
- Shell-first setup — the CLI installs cleanly without pulling in a desktop runtime
- Direct maintainer access — values both open office hours and scheduled review calls
- Recording quality — noted that screen capture "holds up fine" on a tiled 3-monitor layout
- Narrow scope — prefers focused threads with the team owning a feature over broad product announcements
What didn't
No specific complaints about the product itself came up over the 20 minutes we had.
Friction points
Discovery is the weak link — nearly all of their awareness of new releases comes from one forum, which means anything announced elsewhere reaches them late or not at all.
