Filament Atlas — a generative title sequence and brand system for the Kestrel Sound Biennale, built from 41 hours of rendered fibre simulation.

We make identity, film and interface for people who would rather be specific than loud. Twelve people, one room, no house style.

Ashgrove works with cultural institutions, instrument makers and research groups. Most engagements run eight to fourteen weeks, start with a week of reading, and end with something you can hand to a printer or a build engineer.

Selected work

Identity, motion, editorial and product — a short list kept current rather than complete.

Practice

Identity

Naming, marks, type selection, colour and the written rules that keep them alive after we leave.

Motion & film

Title sequences, generative systems, exhibition loops and the render pipelines behind them.

Interface

Sites, archives and tools — designed in the browser, handed over as components, not comps.

Editorial

Annuals, catalogues and specimens, from grid and paper stock through to press attendance.

Environment

Signage, wayfinding and exhibition graphics for buildings that people move through quickly.

Direction

Photography and casting for teams who already have a brand and need it to hold together.

We started in 2019 in a former grain office on the Maashaven, with two desks and a plotter that jammed on anything heavier than 120gsm.

Today there are twelve of us across Rotterdam and Lisbon — designers, two developers, an editor and a producer who keeps the rest of us honest about dates. We take on roughly nine projects a year, which is fewer than we could, and about as many as we can do properly.

Everything is made in-house: no rotating cast of freelancers, no separate strategy department writing decks nobody reads. If you meet someone in the first week, they are still on the file in the last one.
