Woke up sure I would cancel everything, and somehow ended up on a walk that never fell apart. I picked the pier because it was easy, not romantic, and the sky turned over like it had a point to make. The talk never stalled, no long gaps, and we laughed twice at the same odd thing. The coffee went cold, the light dropped, and I left wondering whether that short quiet meant anything — or whether we were both just tired. Either way, not a bad way to lose an afternoon.
