Nordhavn is an independent design and engineering studio founded in 2011, with floors in Copenhagen and Rotterdam. We are twenty-two designers, engineers and writers who build the parts of a company its customers actually touch.
From first-round founders to hundred-year-old manufacturers, we build the identity and the storefront in the same room. We stay deliberately small, so the people who pitch the work are the people who ship it.
Roughly half the studio designs and half of it writes code, and we have held that ratio since our second year on purpose.
What sets us apart is that we are boring about the things that matter — scope, budgets, handovers, the health of the people doing the work. We would rather lose a pitch than staff a project we cannot do properly.
We do not run discovery theatre and we will not invoice you for a deck nobody opens twice. You get working software, drawn carefully, on a date we agreed to together.
Most of what gets published now is a rearrangement of what was already published. Which is why the work anyone still remembers is the work that was obviously made by someone, on purpose, with something at stake.
This is why craft is worth more than it was five years ago, not less. When the average is free and instant, the only interesting position left is the specific one — a real voice, a real argument, a product that behaves like somebody thought about it.
For us that specificity lives in the code. Code is where decisions stop being opinions. It is also where the shortcuts hide, which is why we read every line that ships.
We sit between the two halves of the trade: the half that decides what a company means, and the half that makes the meaning hold up at 3am on a bad connection. Both halves are design.
We take more from record sleeves, wayfinding and industrial catalogues than from other websites. It shows in the work, and we would rather it did.
There is no account layer here, no subcontracted build, no handover cliff. Modern tooling means eight people can hold a system that used to need thirty, and we would rather spend the difference on time than on middle management.
So if you are spending a serious budget and cannot name the people touching your product, we know that feeling. Here you will know all of them by the second week.

Our clients are companies with something specific to sell and a reason to be careful about how it looks. We help them draw, build and keep running the storefronts, campaigns, brand sites and product platforms their customers use every week.
If any of that sounds like your situation, write to mads@nordhavn.studio and we will find an hour. Fair warning: we only take on work we would be happy to show people.
